Once malphite hits 6 vs 2 ranged, the goals change. This should net you a gold and experience advantage pre 6 which should then be converted into tower plates or a dragon. In either case one of the two laners should be heavily punished for "bad positioning" based on their inability to deal with the 2v1 scenarios as described above. If malphite walks forward in front of his carry, you both hit malphite while kiting back, if malphite walks back beside his carry or behind his carry, you walk forward and trade with the carry. Malphite pre 6 has none of that, he has an 8 sec slow and then his best option is "run away."īecause of the above weakness, if you picked two ranged champions then you simply bully his adc because you have two ranged auto attackers and disregarding the shields/heals your ranged character provides, the enemy adc can only afford to trade his one auto for your two so many times before he's forced to base or zoned off the wave entirely. That being said, she is receiving more bans in pro play now than I've ever seen her banned before, so I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a light nerf soon, though I do believe a lot of her popularity right now is because the meta is heavily in favor of teamfighting, and she is the Queen of being a low risk pick. LeBlanc and Syndra, and Orianna's winrates aren't too concerning otherwise. Even during metas where she does see some bans, it's usually because many other staple mid laners are weak, i.e. In most metas (the current pro meta being an exception) three or four other mid laners are picked/banned before she is considered, unless the team has a particularly strong Orianna player on it. For most of her history, she has always been featured in tournaments. There has never been a meta where Orianna is not a viable mid laner. Pro play is the greatest indicator of this. Orianna has not been consistently OP, but she is easily the most consistently relevant Champion of all time.
